3 essential elements of teamwork
Article by Michael Harvey
"Teamwork makes the dream work!" is a common phrase thrown around in sporting teams, workplaces and families. Often, I've found when you dig deeper, there is no significant meaning or action underneath those words. We all know teamwork is valuable and important to complete projects, but often lack to put the time and effort in to understanding what that looks like in our particular context. How does your teamwork impact the health of the team, the way you conduct business or the culture of your workplace? Teamwork is important to invest in and understand what it looks like to be a great team! I've shared three quick tips below on elements of teamwork that can bring a team together.
1. Rallying purpose – This tip came from the incredible team at You Who Leadership from our Leadership Residential. Your rallying purpose is why we get out of bed in the morning and what brings a team together! It's important to identify a shared purpose and all work towards this. Remind each other of your why when things get difficult or the vision becomes clouded.
2. Good people – The key to successful teams is to find good people; look after them and the rest of the business in terms of strategy can be worked around this fundamental platform. Invest in people, value them above what they can do for you and you will begin to build a healthy team who find great purpose in their work.
3. Unifying values – Finding what connects your team together. Where are you united and where do you differ? Our team all have very different values, however we are unified on the important ones that bring us together and help us support and serve our clients.
