Michael Harvey BBus FCPA
Commencing work as a trainee accountant in a small public practice accounting firm whilst studying at university part-time, Michael graduated from University of Tasmania in 1992, advancing to CPA status in 1995. His industry sector experience includes education and training, manufacturing, transport and distribution, higher education, hospitality, mining, property development, primary production, community services and aquaculture.
Michael’s skills and experience are most significant in Business Management, Financial Management, Cash Flow Management, Profitability and Financial Analysis, System Improvements, Taxation, Community Services Accounting and IT Systems. Since 1986, Michael’s professional experience working in Devonport, Launceston, Hobart, Melbourne and Adelaide, has given him a broader understanding and comprehension of how business is done both in Tasmania and interstate. Michael has the skills and the background to ‘work as a team to improve an organisation’s overall function'.
Having been born and raised in Tasmania, Michael has developed an interest in local community and works to improve it socially and economically by creating opportunities for people; sponsorship of sporting groups; sponsorship of community activities and; supporting youth interests. Michael established his own business, MDH Accounting, in 2005 which is active in supporting these opportunities and sponsorships.
Michael’s values, work philosophy and key personal attributes are honesty, fairness, perseverance and determination. These values have been driven by his desire to make a real difference to how a business performs. Central to achieving this goal is the need to continually question, review and examine alternatives to standard practices.
Michael is a very positive person, who approaches all that he does in an enthusiastic manner. He also approaches problems in a very calm and level-headed manner.
As a firm believer in the power of teamwork, Michael enjoys the company of people and seeks to discover and encourage peoples’ strengths to benefit their personal and professional development.
Michael is comfortable working independently on projects, and can manage his own time and priorities in a professional and highly efficient manner. This is evident in his confidential and trustworthy approach to all work. He prides himself in keeping his word, and in delivering what he says he will do. Jo Stirling BBus
Jo started as a trainee accountant at a public accounting practice in Burnie before moving to Launceston and working as the financial controller of a long established Tasmanian retail company.
Jo joined MDH Accounting in 2011 after graduating with a Bachelor of Business.
Jo has experience in bookkeeping, business administration, management accounting and financial accounting; and is able to develop systems for your business, help your business implement the systems and then provide your business with accounting information for your decision making.
Ciona has been part of the MDH Accounting team since 2007. Ciona has developed and uses many skills in the areas of bookkeeping, Financial Statement work for all types of entities, overseeing the ATO lodgement of tax and BAS and becoming a Xero certified adviser.
Ciona believes that her customer service focus is one of the most important roles she can offer to her clients. Ciona works part time to balance family and work life.
Kim joined MDH Accounting in June 2017 as our full-time book-keeper.
Kim has worked previosuly for MDH Accounting as a contract book-keeper as well as helping many of our clients directly.
Kim loves renovating houses and received a new FitBit for Christmas from her three wonderful sons.
Bec has been working in various accounting related positions since 1994, joining the MDH Accounting team in 2011, where her main role is overseeing and completing the financial audits of self managed super funds.
Bec has developed skills in a variety of areas including preparation of income taxation returns and financial statements, bookkeeping and auditing. As treasurer and committee member of various Incorporated associations for the past 10 years she has also developed sound organisational and time management skills.
Bec loves working part time as it enables a fantastic balance of work and family life, being able to still be involved in her daughters schooling and activities.
Bianca joined MDH Accounting in April 2015, after working for another local firm since 1996. She has a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting, and is also a CPA.
Bianca has a background in financial accounting and taxation, and has also worked closely with her clients in the past training them in the use of Quickbooks/Reckon accounting software.
Bianca has worked with small and medium businesses, self-managed super funds, and more recently not-for-profit organisations. Having a good relationship with her clients and open communication is of high importance to Bianca.
Bianca works part time to allow her to spend time with her children and support them in their after school activities.
Mandy has been working as the administrative assistant for MDH Accounting since November 2012. She has completed her Certificate III in Business (with Distinction) and her Certificate IV in Financial Services (bookkeeping).
Mandy has three young children and works three days a week. She enjoys learning new and better ways of achieving goals.
Chloe commenced with MDH in December 2017, after impressing us with her work ethic.
Chloe enjoys hanging out down Bonnie Beach, and listening to Shelley.
