Here is your Just Do This One Little Thing tip for the week

One-Minute-Business-Tip: Time Management works differently for everyone. The trick is to experiment until you find something that works for you. This week we're having a look at the smart phone. (Click on the image to watch the video instead)

Activity: I recently read an article in "Barking Up The Wrong Tree" (Here is the link) About the science of procrastination and being addicted to our phones, and emails.

Here’s a few frightening statistics:

  • 70% of office emails are read within 6 seconds of arriving
  • Prior to the arrival of smartphones we used to spend 18 minutes a day on our phones, today since the advent of the smartphone we spend 3 hours a day on the things.
  • A study was done in which young adults were asked to imagine having a broken bone or having a broken phone. 46% of the respondents preferred to have a broken bone.

Of course we’re different you and I… aren’t we?

Ok, so this week’s "One little thing" should be easy for you…

The article made several suggestions and I'm going to suggest you try two of them:

1. For a week, turn off all your message notifications on your phone, only check your phone when you want to check it.
2. And during a single 1 hour stretch, every day this same week, put your phone upside down at the other end of the room you're working in.

Do this one, or in this case two, little things this week and you’ll be surprised at the difference it makes to your focus at work.

That's all for this week.

Tune in next week Friday for another Just Do This One Little Thing email
